The Return of Blue: Trending Now

The Return of Blue: Trending Now

February 5, 2014January 31, 2023 Margot HorganBlog, Entry-Level PR Job, Fashioncolor trends, fashion, Fashion Trends, Indigo

We make it our business to keep up on all of the latest style trends, and today our intern Carly (more on this rising PR superstar coming soon!) is reporting on one of this season’s hottest – or should we say coolest – colors.

Ever since colored jeans became a hot trend, blue seems to have taken a back seat in the fashion industry. However, this season our favorite cool color tone is making a big comeback in the dramatically fashionable hue, indigo.

Fashion designer Tracy Reese says her customers are always drawn to the moody, yet beautiful, color because “it looks good on everyone.” You can pair indigo with any color palette, whether it is bold and striking or soft and dreamy. To stand out, add a bright accessory and matching heels to an indigo outfit, or add an indigo scarf atop cream-colored blouses to enhance an otherwise simple outfit.

The color trend continues in home décor this season, as well. Elle Décor flaunts tie dyed indigo patterns on wallpapers, wall coverings, throw pillows and rugs, and draws design inspiration from  the dreamy blue-accented Grecian villages along the Mediterranean Sea. Anthropologie boasts an entire line this spring called Everything Indigo in which the color is found in anything from shift dresses to accessories, including iPhone cases, dishes and vases. North Carolina-based tablewear and home decor company Vietri is also on-trend this season with its new collection, Maremisto. The assorted dishware features deep indigo hues accented with pops of color and nautical designs.

So, there’s no reason to feel blue this season as indigo pops up everywhere like budding springtime flowers. Whether it is gracing the runways of top clothing designers, accenting trendy pieces of furniture, or sprinkled in the designs of fine china, indigo is a dominating color this season. The Spring 2014 Pantone Fashion Color Report says so.

What to Wear to a Job Interview

What to Wear to a Job Interview

August 23, 2013January 31, 2023 Margot HorganBlog, Fashion, Free Adviceentry-level PR job, entry-level PR position, interns, Interview Attire, Interview Outfit, PR Agency, PR Internships, PR jobs, Raleigh PR Agency, Raleigh Public Relations Agency

I’m a big believer in the mantra “dress for success.” And, although it’s not yet scientifically proven, I am pretty positive that you will always feel more confident and secure if you are dressed in a crisp, clean and appropriate outfit. This especially rings true for job and internship interviews.

As the internship coordinator at Clairemont, I’ve seen plenty of interview candidates – and often been one myself in the (somewhat) recent past. For an interviewer, few things are more distracting than an inappropriately dressed or sloppy candidate. For a job hunter, dressing the part for an interview can be just as stressful. Is this too dressy? Is this too casual? Is this too boring? As a college student seeking internships and jobs, I often asked myself these questions. From experience (on both sides of the interview table), this is what I have decided.

Sporting a suit should always be your first choice. It doesn’t have to be expensive, but it should fit well without being too revealing. For women candidates, this can be a skirt or pant suit, or the alternative suiting dress, like this one from J.Crew. Suits are classic and classy and show you are serious about the job. For more inspiration, see our Interview Appropriate board on Pinterest.

If a suit feels too stiff for the occasion, opt for a tailored pencil skirt or pair of slacks, a blouse and a cardigan or blazer. For a creative job in an agency setting, take the opportunity to show your individuality with statement accessories or a fashionable blazer like this one from Nordstrom. We also love this simple pencil dress with subtle leather detailing from Asos.

In the end though, don’t ever minimalism the fact that this outfit is for a job interview. Being fashionable is great, but making a good first impression and landing your dream job is way better. Steer clear of anything too short, too tight or too low-cut. Always err on the side of conservative caution, and you’re sure to be dressed for success. (Here’s a hint: If you’re stuck for ideas on what to wear, check out this fabulous blog stock full of great office attire and where to buy each of the pieces!)

Oxblood: Add a Drop to Your Wardrobe this Fall

November 6, 2012January 31, 2023 Margot HorganBlog, Fashion, Trendsfashion, Fashion Trends, Oxblood Color Trend

Deemed the color of the season by many fashion blogs and trendsetters, Oxblood is popping up everywhere – from makeup and accessories to clothing and shoes. And everyone is talking about it, from national sources like Real Simple Magazine and The Wall Street Journal to our local newspaper, The News & Observer.

Add a splash (or a drop) of oxblood to your Fall wardrobe!

While the name might conjure up dark images, don’t shy away from this trendy new color. Oxblood is a more complex color than just burgundy, wine, maroon or merlot. It is a deep, rich, warm red with a hint of brown, purple and blue, and can be the ideal accent to any outfit this season.

Oxblood has become a popular color in the makeup market – lipsticks, eye shadows, blushes and nail polish. A little pop of oxblood through makeup can give your look a boost of sophistication. It can also be a fun alternative from the blacks and dark purples you see during cooler months.

Denim and leathers in oxblood are also big on the runway and in department stores this fall. Still skeptical? Here are a few ways you can incorporate this color into your personal style:

  • Pair it with a more neutral color like khaki, olive and tans
  • Contrast it with light neutral colors
  • Layer it with other shades of red

A little oxblood can help an outfit become the perfect fall look. And remember…a little goes a long way!

From the Drexel Heritage Blog: Tropical Prints

June 1, 2012January 31, 2023 Margot HorganBlog, Fashion, Furniture PR, Social Media + Influencer Engagementcoral, island, lamps, oyster shell, palm, palm leaves, palm tree, prints, tropical, upholstery

With Tropical Storm Beryl passing through North Carolina this week, we thought we’d share another tropical trend taking the nation by storm: tropical printed upholstery! Please enjoy this blog we recently shared on Trends & Trips, the Drexel Heritage blog.

Can’t get enough of tie-dye? We want to tell you about another retro trend that is taking the runway by storm (again).  We’re forecasting that tropical designs are here to stay, like this flirty dress from Juicy Couture. The lightweight fabric and palm tree leaf design are perfect for easygoing style and the hot summer months.  We also love the tropical coral color in this Donna Morgan dress that is sure to make a statement this season.

We love this dress from Juicy Couture!

Don’t have time for a trip to the islands? Enjoy the island lifestyle from the comfort of your own home with our new tropical fabrics. The Darian chair in a palm leaf print is the perfect way to add a little piece of paradise to your living room or bedroom. To accessorize, add a beach inspired clamshell lamp or wall accessory, and you’ll be well on your way to a little rest and relaxation.

Palm leaf prints are haute couture!
We love the idea of decorating by framing tropical leaves, too!
This clamshell lamp received lots of love at High Point Market this spring!
We love mixing pops of coral with red.

What’s your favorite place to “get away” in your home?

Trends Tuesday: Get Fit Fashionably

March 6, 2012January 31, 2023 Josephine ButlerBlog, Fashion, TrendsAlo, athletic gear, Beyond Yoga, Fashionable, Lululemon, running, stylish, workout clothes, yoga3 Comments on Trends Tuesday: Get Fit Fashionably

She’s going to share her secret! Our intern and fashionably fit intern Margot Horgan reveals a trendy way to find motivation at the gym.

We’ve all heard the expression, “Dress for success.” It’s been proven that dressing professionally will improve performance at work and on tests. Last week at the gym, I had a similar realization. Wearing fashionable athletic wear motivates me to have a better workout.

It all started last week at the gym when I caught myself awkwardly staring at this woman’s awesome workout shirt. With the color blocking design and empire waistline, she could have easily thrown that top on with a pair of dark jeans and gone out to dinner. Feeling inspired by her workout gear, I started doing a little research of my own – I want to get fit fashionably, too!

I didn’t have to search long before I found sites like Lululemon, Alo and Beyond Yoga. With so many trendy (and practical) selections to choose from, I don’t know why I would ever wear a baggy T-shirt to the gym ever again. Instead, I’ll don this No Limit Tank from Lululemon. The lightweight fabric and loose fit makes this shirt look oh-so-comfortable, and the elastic band on the hem is an added bonus – no unwanted stomach sightings during downward dog in this top! This Running Tech Bra from Alo is also on trend with its color block design and is even available in the color or the year – tangerine tango!

What do you think about turning the treadmill into a catwalk? Would these fashionable workout ensembles motivate you to hit the gym?
