The Beauty of Raleigh PR: Day 25 – Creativity

The Beauty of Raleigh PR: Day 25 – Creativity

February 11, 2015January 31, 2023 Jasmin SessomsBlog, Entry-Level PR Job, The Clairemont Teamcreative PR agency, creative writing, Raleigh PR Agency

Its 4 p.m. in the office, you have been working for seven hours and the dreaded afternoon slump hits. When you are lacking a little inspiration at work, what do you do? Whether we are planning an event, pitching media or writing a client strategy, we have all experienced creative blocks.

At Clairemont, we have a few tricks we would love to share with you to stimulate your creativity.

5 Sources of Clairemont-spiration

  1. News: Reading the paper, watching a few minutes of TV news, flipping through a magazine and checking out updates on social media are wonderful ways to get ideas. Sometimes you get the best ideas from the most unexpected places.
  2. Fresh Air: Need a change of scenery? Clairemont is located in the heart of downtown Raleigh. We love pausing our tasks to take a quick, refreshing walk. In general, changing your environment — whether it is sitting at a different desk or walking across town — it helps to change up your thinking.
  3. Billy: Dogs in the work place help to reduce stress and tension. Billy, our CMO (Chief Motivational Officer), is a regular fixture around the office, always on the lookout for a neck scratch, a walk or a little playtime. The point is, sometimes, your brain just needs a break.
  4. Treats: Let’s face it; for those who partake, caffeine simply puts a little pep in our steps. The morning brew helps me start my day (and afternoon and evening). Sometimes we have a sweet tooth and other times we crave salty snacks. For team brainstorm sessions, we find having our favorite treats make it feel more like a party than work. And THAT makes the creativity flow!
  5. The Craziest (or Worst) Idea Ever: Sometimes you just have to go to extremes. When you can’t seem to nail the best idea ever, see what you can come up with as the craziest idea ever…or give yourself permission to think up the worst idea ever. In the process, you just might find a notion that will lead you to be wildly successful.

When these things don’t work, we dance it out until inspiration hits! What do you do to get your brain functioning after being stuck in a rut?

The Beauty of Raleigh PR: Day 20 – Time Tips

The Beauty of Raleigh PR: Day 20 – Time Tips

February 4, 2015January 31, 2023 Jasmin SessomsBlog, Entry-Level PR Job, The Clairemont TeamRaleigh PR Agency, time management, Tips and Trends

Time: is it really on our side?

In the Clairemont office there are always a plethora of tasks going on at once. As PR professionals, we have to learn how to switch gears efficiently to maximize our time. I think my colleagues do a wonderful job of managing their time. Ready to learn, I curated a few time management tips from the team.

Top Nine Time Management Tips from the Clairemont Team:

1) Early to bed. Early to rise.

2) Prioritize your to-do list. And use it.

2) Take intentional breaks throughout your day. Recharge and refocus.

3) Look at your to-do list at the beginning of the day and tackle the task you want to do the least.

4) Set deadlines for yourself and pursue them with urgency.

5) If you are struggling with an assignment, revisit it later.

6) Allocate a certain amount of time to invest in a task.

7) Take time to proof.

8) Stop procrastinating (or at least put it off until a later date). Take the initiative to jump start tasks.

9) Produce quality, not quantity.

Before you begin work for the day, take some time to think slowly and create a list. Make sure to get enough “shut-eye” tonight, and here’s to a great day tomorrow!

Tips to Celebrate #SocialMedia

Tips to Celebrate #SocialMedia

June 30, 2014January 31, 2023 Cherith AndesBlog, Public Relations, Social Media + Influencer Engagement, The Clairemont TeamFacebook, Instagram, national social media day, Social Media, Twitter

Whip out your best hashtag. June 30 marks the official occasion to embrace your cyber self for  Mashable’s National Social Media Day. From dawn until dusk (and a few times in between), thousands of social media enthusiasts will flock to meetups across the globe and celebrate the digital revolution.

To join in the festivities, Clairemont team members Dana Hughens, Sarah Hattman and Cherith Mangum share a glimpse into their own experiences with online communication. We’ve culled out a few highlights, favorites and tricks of the trade to help you shake up your next posts.

Stealing the Spotlight: “One of my favorite creative social media campaigns…”
Dana
: I’ll give this one to Travelocity and the Roaming Gnome. Tweet him and see what happens. This is a fantastic example of how social media is used as an extension of the overall brand strategy, and it combines beautiful photography (that makes me want to travel) with humor by inserting the gnome into the pictures.
Sarah: For me it’s Urban Hilton Weiner’s selfie campaign. Visitors to the store were given a $10 coupon if they tweeted a selfie of themselves trying on clothes from the South African retailer and used the hastag #urbanselfie. What better way to engage customers and generate brand awareness than with the power of the selfie?!

My Ah-Ha Moment: “Social media all clicked for me when…”
Cherith:  A local celebrity tweeted me back…twice. I’m still amazed by the instant bond one teeny “like” can foster. Talk about brand loyalty. I’m pretty sure I felt like a lifelong friend after those two exchanges on Twitterverse.

Changing History: “If social media existed, it would have revolutionized…”
Dana: The Women’s Rights Movement of the 60s. #braburning
Cherith: Neil Armstrong’s “one giant leap for mankind.” (Selfie with a martian!)

Popular Pitfalls: “One thing to avoid in social media…”
Sarah
: Neglecting it! If you don’t have time to keep them updated and respond to followers it does not make sense to even set up the accounts.
Cherith: A “Belfie,” the bathroom selfie. And while we’re at it, consider steering clear of these 16 other Sh-Elfies (“shudder-worthy selfies). (Okay, fine, it’s not a real word. But results still border on committing a faux pas.)

“In social media, wouldn’t it be cool if…”
Dana: You could be reminded to wish your friends a happy birthday. Post pictures of your dog. Share a video of your kid. Search by topics. Put filters on your photos to make yourself look like a much better photographer than you really are.

Now Featuring: “My favorite feature on social media is…”
Sarah: Twitter’s “Who to Follow” suggestions. It’s a great (and easy) way to expand your network and allows companies to interact with potential customers.

Happy tweeting, posting, pinning and gramming!

Feeling “InSpired”

Feeling “InSpired”

May 12, 2014January 31, 2023 Sarah HattmanAwards, Blog, Professional Development, The Clairemont TeamClairemont Communications, InSpire Awards, NCPRSA, PR Awards, teamwork

Each year in May the North Carolina Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (NCPRSA) hosts the InSpire Awards, which brings together the top PR pros in the Triangle to celebrate the “best of the best” in public relations. I am pleased and honored to say that Clairemont Communications won 10 awards at this year’s event, including two best in category awards, six awards of excellence and two honorable mentions. This means that since Clairemont opened its doors in 2010, the team has won 85 industry awards.

I wish I could take credit for the awards, but the truth is that I have been a member of the Clairemont team for only a little over a month, and the award-winning work was done many months ahead of my arrival. Based on the smile that was plastered on my face each of the 10 times that the evening’s emcee, WRAL’s Debra Morgan, read Clairemont’s name, you might think I single-handedly crafted and executed the campaigns and tactics. However, I was simply in awe of my new teammates and excited to know that I joined such an extremely creative and wildly successful team.

I attribute the success to an outstanding team. In my short time with the agency, I have learned that Clairemont takes the word “team” to a whole new level and gives validation to the old saying, “There’s no ‘i” in team.” I know it seems rather cliche, but it really is the truth when it comes to Clairemont. Whether it’s a brainstorming session, working through a challenge or simply going through the daily routine, everyone is working together, supporting each other and having fun.

This is why I wasn’t surprised to learn that each year Clairemont develops a “team theme” for the InSpire Awards. In previous years, team members arrived at the banquet wearing all yellow or waved Facebook “Like” flags as a team member accepted an award for a social media campaign. This year we discussed several options, ranging from straw hats or scarves to an animal print of some sort. After several conversations and much consideration, (Could we find a hat shop? Did we all have animal print clothing? What was within everyone’s comfort zone?) we opted to wear black and/or white with orange accessories.

I liked the idea; it was classy and had a feel of understated elegance. But I couldn’t help but wonder if people would actually look at me and think, “She has on a black dress, a white blazer, an orange necklace and orange earrings. Oh, she must be with Clairemont!” After all, it was an awards banquet at The State Club. I expected many attendees would be dressed in black and white with a splash of color.

Well, it turns out that not only did they did notice, several of them commented saying it was a “fun idea” or a “nice touch.” I admit it was pretty obvious that our color scheme was intentional as I looked around our table and saw everyone dressed according to our “team theme.” That’s when it hit me. Our colored-coordinated attire was a true testimony of the Clairemont culture. We all had the same goal of presenting ourselves as a united team by wearing the same colors, but each of our outfits was different and represented the fact that we each bring our own sense of style and personality to the table in everything thing we do.

I look forward to the days, weeks and months ahead at Clairemont, and who knows, maybe next year will be the year that Clairemont wins its 100th industry award.

Clairemont Interns: Meet Carly Griffin

Clairemont Interns: Meet Carly Griffin

March 7, 2014January 31, 2023 Margot HorganBlog, Raleigh PR Agency, The Clairemont Team1 Comment on Clairemont Interns: Meet Carly Griffin

Today’s guest post is written by Clairemont intern, Carly Griffin.

I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself as the newest girl fortunate enough to work with the amazing ladies at Clairemont. My name is Carly Griffin, and as a current Junior at UNC-CH (Go Heels!) majoring in Journalism and Mass Communications with a concentration in public relations, you can see why this opportunity is so exciting for me. After working at Trone Brand Advertising (an advertising agency in my hometown of High Point) this past summer, I wanted to test the waters at a full-service PR Agency. After just a few short weeks at Clairemont, I can already tell I’m going to enjoy my time learning the ins and outs of a public relations agency.

So, that’s how I came to be here. Now here’s a little bit about myself: I am a Tar Heel born and bred in High Point, NC. Both of my parents attended North Carolina, as did my older sister. I guess you could say it’s a family tradition. I also have a younger sister who we are currently trying to convince to come to school here, as well. My family is rounded out by our two lovable and goofy dogs, Bubba (a Boykin spaniel) and Cooper (a mutt). Being such a dog lover, I was very excited to learn that Billy hangs out with us in the office.

I’m an avid reader and a genius on all things Harry Potter (seriously, ask me anything about Harry Potter), which might be why I chose to minor in Creative Writing. I like to run, a lot, and am currently training for my second half-marathon. And, at the risk of embarrassing myself, I am a huge One Direction fan.

I like to live at a fast pace and am always plugged into social media, which might be the reason I was drawn to public relations. One of my favorite things that Clairemont has created is the Instagram account, PR Baton. Following real world PR professionals throughout their busy days inspires me to continue to work hard so that I too may be one of those professionals. Who knows, maybe I’ll get to carry the PR Baton one day.

Take a look at what I hope my future holds here!
